amisfield pinot noir
Amisfield Pinot Noir 2005
Amisfield wine company
– New Zealand

Supple and concentrated, Amisfield Pinot Noir shows the complexity, concentration and texture of great new world Pinot Noir. This is classic Central Otago Pinot with dark rich fruits, spicy aromas and undertones of liquorice and smoke. Finished in a rich palate with fine silky tannins.

This wine will only improve with careful cellaring for up to 5 years, but hard to resist when drinking superbly on release.

Comments from experts:

Suave and ripe, with plush depth to Asian spice, roasted duck, wild berry and black cherry flavours. Crushed stone nuances, judicious oak and sinuous tannins streamline the stylish finish. Drink now through 2011. Daniel Sogg, Wine Spectator, 30 April 2007

Another notch in the belt for Amisfield’s impressively sited vineyard north of Lowburn on the shores of Lake Dunstan. A deeply coloured and densely flavoured pinot noir with black cherry, plum, cassis and savoury characters. Slightly funky.

John Ellis
A bit chocolaty with oak complementing the fruit. A generous palate and what a great start! A great match for the food. Enormous complementation. It enhanced the wine.

Robin Moody
The wine showed bright and lifted, charry nose. Quite a soft palate. Good appealing flavours. Perhaps a little simple but a lovely combination with the quail. The wine and food went very well together.

Steve Flamsteed
Pure cherry, slightly pruney. Obviously grown in a lovely cool climate. Little hints of stewed rhubarb. Briary. Lovely malty oak. Held up with the food and also with time. This is a very good and well made wine with good concentration.

Tony Allen
Very expressive nose. Good varietal expression. Strawberry, redcurrant etc. Quite simple on the palate but it works well with most of the elements in the dish including the sweetness. A good effort.

Adrian Atkinson
Deep, concentrated, primary fruit flavours with high acid and sweet finish. A nice food combination with the sweetness to match the food. A very good combination.

Kym Milne
A very good, complex, fairly ripe style of Pinot. Quite a fleshy wine. A hint of jammy notes. Some firm tannins. Quite young. Needs some time. A good wine but looked slightly raw with the food. It will be better with more time.

Martin Moran
This shows an array of red fruits. Loganberries, cherry, raspberry perfume and maybe a touch of violet. Fairly good length. It goes well with the food without changing too much.
