Opus One 1993, in which Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA has a 50% interest, has beеn produced since 1979 in partnership with the Robert Mondavi Winery. It is now acknowledged to be one of California’s finest red wines.
Opus One combines state-of-the-art winemaking with the rigorous demands inspired by the great tradition of Chateau Mouton Rothschild.
Tasing notes:
The wine has a deep and dense, very dark red colour and a nicely open nose on rich fruit (peach, nectarine, dried fruit) and more complex aromas that suggest caramel and a touch of mint. A smooth and substantial attack brings beautifully textured tannins, close-grained but already well-integrated, striking a fine balance between structure and flavour. Round and lush on the palate, the fruit flavours expand on notes of vanilla and toast. The rich and powerful finish reflects both the solid tannic structure and the superb potential of this still-young vintage.
